Tragically, the body of Steven's fellow crewman was recovered from the frigid waters, a heartbreaking loss for his family and the close-knit fishing community. Despite the sorrow of one crewman's passing, hope remained for Steven's safe return. Search efforts were undertaken by the Alaska State Troopers and likely involved the U.S. Coast Guard, who frequently patrol the dangerous Alaskan coastline. The searchers scoured the area around the inverted vessel, battling against the elements and the vastness of the sea. However, as hours turned into days, the hope of finding Steven alive began to fade. The extensive searches of the area were ultimately unsuccessful in locating him.
