Dayne Ortiz, an 18-year-old senior at Farrington High School, went missing on November 2, 2013, while kayaking off the coast of Waialua, Hawaii, near the Mokuleia Polo Fields. He was observed struggling in rough waters about 100 yards from shore before his kayak overturned. Despite an extensive search that spanned several days and covered more than 720 square miles, no sign of Ortiz was found, aside from his empty kayak, which washed ashore later that day.
