Later on the night of July 24, a Hancock County Sheriff's deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle, which then sped away, initiating a police chase. The pursuit continued onto Interstate 10 East, where the car eventually stopped near a wooded area. Three individuals reportedly fled from the vehicle into the woods. Law enforcement was able to apprehend the driver and one passenger, but a third person, believed by authorities to be Brennan, managed to escape. This individual, described as not wearing a shirt or shoes, disappeared into the wooded area south of Interstate 10 at Exit 20. Despite the belief of law enforcement, there are conflicting accounts from the two men who were in the car, with one initially stating Brennan was with them and later changing his story. His mother has also expressed doubts that the person seen fleeing in a video of the incident was her son.
