Mariano Medina Funes, age 36, was last seen on December 31, 2019, in Jacinto City, Texas. He left with two men he knew and was possibly heading to Pasadena, Texas. Mariano had plans to meet his sister at a church later that evening to celebrate New Year's, but he never arrived. His girlfriend later received a distressing call from him at 8:20 p.m., during which Mariano screamed that he was in danger and that the men he was with were going to kill him. The call abruptly ended, and he has not been heard from since.

Mariano suffers from a mild mental disability and requires medication for his condition, making him vulnerable to influence. He is described as having multiple tattoos, including a bullet hole tattoo behind his ear and a map of Texas on his arm. Despite efforts by authorities, including identifying one of the men last seen with him, no significant developments have been made in the case, and foul play is suspected. The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate.
