Jeffrey Lynn Cullimore, a 23-year-old Army Specialist, was last seen on July 16, 1966, near Fort Irwin, California. Cullimore and another serviceman, 2nd Lt. Arthur Rowland Jr., left the base in a military jeep to survey a training area on July 14. They were expected to return soon after. When they failed to report back, an extensive search was initiated in the harsh desert terrain near Death Valley.
The two soldiers had ventured into the scorching desert, and while Rowland's body was discovered on July 19, Cullimore remained missing. Searches for Cullimore were called off after days of effort. The intense desert conditions, including extreme heat, were considered major challenges during the search, and Cullimore was never found. It is believed that both men succumbed to the elements, although Cullimore's body has never been located.
