Matthew Ryan Kalange, a 25-year-old man, was last seen in Missoula, Montana, on August 16, 2021. His gold Lexus, with Idaho license plate 1A 382FD, was later found abandoned on eastbound Highway 200 at mile marker 53, near the town of Ovando in Powell County. The vehicle had run out of gas. A note was discovered on the windshield that read, "RAN OUT OF GAS PLEASE DO NOT TOW! God Bless, Matt."
The location where his car was found is a remote area between Browns Lake and the intersection with Highway 141, a region with vast wilderness and limited cell phone service. It is believed that after running out of fuel, Matthew may have started walking toward one of the nearby towns, such as Ovando, Lincoln, or Helmville, to get gas. Complicating his situation, he did not have his wallet or his cell phone with him at the time of his disappearance.
Following the discovery of his abandoned car, law enforcement and search teams conducted extensive ground and aerial searches of the surrounding rugged terrain. Despite these efforts, no trace of Matthew was found. The local community, along with his family and friends, actively participated in the search, organizing search parties and distributing flyers in an effort to generate leads.
Matthew is described as a Caucasian male with brown hair and blue eyes. At the time he went missing, his hair was shaved. He stood 6 feet tall and weighed approximately 175-180 pounds. Law enforcement has investigated several potential scenarios regarding his disappearance, but as of now, his case remains an unresolved mystery. His family continues to hope for answers and his safe return.
