Luke Adam Sanburg, a 13-year-old boy from Helena, Montana, disappeared on June 24, 2005, while camping with his Boy Scout troop in Yellowstone National Park, about six miles north of Gardiner, Montana. Luke and some of the other boys were playing by the Yellowstone River, pushing logs into the fast-moving water when he fell in and was swept away. Despite an extensive search, including a three-day investigation of the river and its surroundings, no trace of Luke was found, apart from his sneakers, which were discovered five miles downstream.
Authorities believe that Luke likely drowned in the unswimmable, 50-degree water. His body has never been recovered, and he is presumed to have died in the river.
Luke, who had just finished seventh grade, was remembered as a bright student with a passion for math, poetry, and music, and he had two younger siblings.
The case remains unsolved, but foul play is not suspected, and Luke's disappearance is classified as a tragic accident resulting from dangerous river conditions.Last Seen: Jun 24, 2005
