Gloria Smith, an 8-year-old girl from Fayetteville, North Carolina, went missing on June 25, 1988, while vacationing with family in Oak Island. She was last seen wading in waist-deep water near the Kings Lynn Drive area. The search for Gloria began when her 16-year-old stepsister, who had been watching her, fell asleep on the beach.
