Karen Rae Bosta was a 39-year-old woman who vanished from Edenton, North Carolina, on May 30, 2015. On that day, she informed her mother that she was going out to run errands and meet with friends. Later that evening, she sent a text message to her mother indicating she would be home early. She was last seen at approximately 10:00 p.m. leaving a Food Lion store on North Broad Street. She had made three separate transactions using her mother's credit card.
Karen, who required daily medication for a mental health condition and cognitive impairment, never returned home. The medication she was taking could cause severe side effects if stopped abruptly.
A week after she was last seen, Karen's red 1997 Lincoln Continental was found abandoned and locked in a shopping center parking lot in Edenton, about a mile from the Food Lion. Her car keys were missing. The investigation into her disappearance revealed that her mother's Discover credit card was used the day after she went missing to buy gas at a convenience store. Cell phone records showed that on the day she disappeared, Karen had driven around Edenton, visiting a fast-food restaurant and driving back and forth to the home of a man named Thomas Edward White Sr. Her phone remained active until June 1, 2015.
Thomas Edward White Sr. became a person of interest after he used Karen's mother's credit card to purchase cigarettes the day after her disappearance. He claimed to have found the credit card on his porch. White was charged with and later pleaded guilty to obtaining property by false pretense. He was sentenced to six weekends in jail, 36 months of probation, and was ordered to pay restitution. While authorities do not believe White was directly responsible for her disappearance, they suspect he has knowledge of what happened to her. Foul play is suspected in Karen's case, as her disappearance was considered uncharacteristic. Despite a reward being offered for information, her case remains unsolved.Last Seen: May 30, 2015
