Ramon George Brown, an 86-year-old man living with dementia, was last seen on the evening of July 14, 2019, when he walked away from his family's farm in Dolores, Colorado. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a white and light blue checkered shirt, gray slacks, black shoes, and possibly a dark blue or black ball cap. He has not been seen or heard from since he left the farm. His family searched for him in Dolores before notifying the authorities that evening.
Immediately following his disappearance, the Montezuma County Sheriff's Office, along with Montezuma County Search and Rescue, initiated an extensive search. The effort involved numerous volunteers, multiple K-9 units from both local and out-of-town teams, and assistance from various fire departments who used all-terrain vehicles and trucks to cover a 1¾-mile radius around Brown's home. Despite the intensive four-day search, no solid clues to his whereabouts were discovered. Some search dogs showed mild interest in certain areas, but these leads did not result in any significant findings. After four days of exhaustive searching with no success, the official search was suspended, though the sheriff's office stated they would continue to investigate any new leads.
In the years that followed Ramon Brown's disappearance, his family and volunteer search and rescue teams continued to look for him, but their efforts yielded no positive results. The complete lack of evidence or any sign of his whereabouts led to a painful and prolonged period of uncertainty for his loved ones. Ultimately, the court was petitioned, and a 'presumed' death certificate was issued on January 1, 2025. A memorial and celebration of life was scheduled for July 1, 2025, at the Cortez church of Christ, providing a space for family and friends to remember him. The case remains a sorrowful mystery, marked by a massive but fruitless search effort and the enduring pain of a family left without answers.
