In the fall of 2022, 54-year-old Tammy Lynn Pitkin, a successful real estate agent from Red Bluff, California, embarked on a trip to Oregon with her two small dogs. Her family last saw her on October 14, 2022. She was last known to be in Sutherlin, Oregon, and surrounding areas around mid-October. At the time of her disappearance, Tammy was navigating a period of significant personal change, having recently filed for divorce and looking forward to the birth of her first grandchild and her son's wedding. She told her son she was going on a trip and would be back in a few days. Concerned after not hearing from her, she was officially reported missing on October 26th. The investigation into Tammy's whereabouts intensified when, on October 29, 2022, a hunter discovered her gray Toyota Camry abandoned on a remote, dead-end Forest Service road off Highway 20, approximately 30 miles east of Sweet Home, Oregon. The location was puzzling to investigators as Tammy had no known connections to the Linn County area. Inside the locked vehicle, authorities found many of her personal belongings, including her purse with identification, passport, medication, and an overnight bag. Also inside were leashes for her dogs, a gun, and moving boxes containing clothes and shoes. Investigators believe her car had been at that location since approximately October 17th, based on the amount of fuel left in the tank. Despite extensive searches of the area by law enforcement and search and rescue teams, no sign of Tammy was found. In a surprising development a few months later, one of her dogs, a small white dog named Trooper, was found alive running along Highway 20, not far from where her car had been discovered. The other dog, a Jack Russell Terrier, remains missing. The discovery of Trooper brought a renewed sense of hope, but also more questions in this baffling case. The circumstances surrounding Tammy's disappearance, including her state of mind at the time, her unusual travel destination, and the discovery of her abandoned car and one of her dogs, have left her family and investigators with a complex and heart-wrenching puzzle. Her sister believes Tammy may be deceased but continues to actively seek answers and encourages anyone with even the smallest detail to come forward, hoping to piece together the timeline of what happened to Tammy Pitkin.
