Steven Robert Poitras, a 27-year-old scallop fisherman, went missing on November 1, 1980, while at sea off Swans Island, Maine. He was aboard a vessel called the *Sea Hunter* along with two other crew members when the boat began to take on water. The situation quickly turned dire, prompting a rescue operation. Although the other two crew members were successfully saved, Poitras was last seen submerging in the water and tragically did not resurface.
