In the autumn of 1984, a young man named Ian David MacKeigan, aged 20, was embarking on a new chapter in his life in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Having recently graduated from a welding course in Sydney, he had moved to the city in July of that year and had just started a new job in his trade two weeks prior. On the evening of October 22, 1984, Ian was last seen by a family member at his residence on Manor Lane. He mentioned he was heading out to meet with friends, possibly at a downtown nightclub known as the Palace on Brunswick Street. He departed in his red 1978 Plymouth Horizon TC3 hatchback, a vehicle as distinctive as the new life he was building. However, Ian never arrived at his destination and was not seen or heard from again. Three days later, on October 25, 1984, he was officially reported as a missing person.
The days turned into weeks, and then years, with no sign of Ian or his vehicle.
At the time of his disappearance, he was described as being 5'9" and weighing 184 pounds, with brown, medium-length hair and blue-green eyes. He was last seen wearing a reddish-brown leather bomber jacket, navy blue rugby pants, and white and red high-top leather basketball shoes. He also wore a distinctive ring on his right hand. Inside his car was a blue ten-speed bicycle with the front wheel removed. The vehicle itself, a red 1978 Plymouth Horizon with Nova Scotia license plate number 57-34-81, vanished along with him, leaving a void of information and a family grappling with unanswered questions.
Over the decades, the investigation into Ian David MacKeigan's disappearance has remained open. Law enforcement officials believe that there are individuals who possess information that could be crucial to resolving the case. In an effort to encourage those with knowledge to come forward, his case has been included in the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program, which offers a substantial reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in relation to his disappearance. Despite the passage of nearly four decades, the hope that someone will provide the key piece of information to unlock the mystery of what happened to Ian persists. His disappearance is a haunting story of a young man on the cusp of his future, who vanished without a trace, leaving behind an enduring mystery and a family forever waiting for answers.Last Seen: Oct 22, 1984
