On the evening of September 30, 1979, Adolphe Thorassie and three hunting partners were returning home after a successful hunt on Tadoule Lake in Manitoba. Two men were in each boat. On the return journey, the men had to go ashore to get out of the wind. They set off again despite the strong winds on the lake, which made the water extremely dangerous with high waves.
