On October 30, 1964, Murray Hansen departed from Berens River, Manitoba, on a boat bound for Black River. On that day, the weather deteriorated, with stormy conditions and rough water on the lake. After an extended absence, his wife initiated a search for him, which revealed that he had not actually arrived in Black River.
