On October 21, 2008, 63-year-old George Donald Everett, a male from Manitoba, was on a boat in Lake Winnipeg with two other people. The vessel had departed from Poplar Point the previous day to take buoys out of the lake. During the night, the boat encountered mechanical problems and could not proceed. As the early morning hours of October 21st arrived, the weather took a turn for the worse, and the boat was battered by waves reaching up to ten feet high.
