In the summer of 2023, a then 29-year-old woman named Shanice Ogata-Staudinger vanished from the picturesque, yet rugged, coastline of Puna, Hawaii. On the morning of July 9th, she and a relative went to a familiar local spot known as 'Hau Bush,' located in the area of Kahakai Boulevard and Papio Street in Pāhoa, to engage in the traditional practice of picking ‘opihi, a type of limpet. At some point during their time on the rocky shore, Shanice became separated from her companion.
