The focus then shifted to another young man known as "Ronnie" who she was thought to be with in the Parsons area. However, he and his family were also contacted and had no knowledge of her whereabouts. It was also clarified that Lia's ties were to Arma in Crawford County, not Alma. The investigation took a significant turn when authorities learned that Lia had arranged for a pickup from her home and left in a vehicle with three other people.

The Yates Center Police Department expressed their worries, noting that Lia, who had recently turned sixteen, was without a cell phone or money, and lacked the life skills to survive on her own. Believing she was being harbored, investigators continued to follow leads. In a significant development on March 11, two individuals were arrested in Parsons in connection with her disappearance and were later charged with aggravated interference with custody and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. These individuals were among the three who had picked Lia up from her home. In an effort to generate new leads, Lia's family offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to her location, a testament to their desperation to bring her home safely.
