Christine Rusch, 22, was last seen on June 25, 1989, in Lenexa, Kansas, where she lived with her roommate, Theresa Brown. The next day, Christine called in sick for both herself and Brown to their respective workplaces. The two women were never heard from again. A subsequent investigation revealed that their bank accounts had been drained, with a security camera capturing Christine making a withdrawal at an ATM.
She appeared disheveled, wearing oversized sunglasses and showing signs of physical injury.
Richard Grissom Jr., a maintenance worker at their apartment complex, was quickly identified as a suspect. His car, found days later, contained items belonging to both Rusch and Brown, as well as keys to their apartment. Grissom had a history of violent crime and was later convicted of the murders of Christine, Theresa, and another woman, Joan Butler. Despite extensive searches, the bodies of the missing women have never been recovered, and Grissom has refused to reveal their locations. He remains in prison, serving multiple life sentences.
