In the late summer of 1987, 24-year-old Steven Walter Tuomi, a native of Ontonagon, Michigan, was living and working in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was known to be a friendly and artistic young man, who had graduated from high school in 1981 and had since found employment at a local restaurant.
