In the summer of 2022, concern grew for Corey Nathan Hart, a 35-year-old man from Greenfield, Wisconsin, who was last seen in Edmonton, Kentucky. The Kentucky State Police were asked to assist the Metcalfe County Sheriff's Office on August 11, 2022, after Hart was reported missing from a residence on Breeding Road in Metcalfe County. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as being between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing between 175 and 185 pounds, with blond
or strawberry-colored hair and blue eyes. An investigation into his whereabouts was promptly launched by law enforcement, beginning a search that would unfortunately last for several months.
The investigation into Corey Hart's disappearance continued through the fall and winter. A significant development in the case occurred on the morning of February 22, 2023, when the Kentucky State Police received information that possible human remains had been discovered on Betty Sparkman Road in Metcalfe County. State Police troopers and detectives responded to the location and confirmed that the remains were human, shifting the focus of their investigation from a missing person case to a death investigation. The remains were then sent to the state medical examiner's office for identification.
Through the use of rapid DNA testing, the medical examiner's office was able to confirm the human remains were those of Corey Nathan Hart. His family shared that he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who later earned a degree in Health & Human Performance. Remembered as a loving brother and son who was passionate about Jiu-Jitsu, his loss was described as devastating by his loved ones. The investigation into his death led detectives to identify a suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued for Christopher Leon, a 38-year-old from Calipatria, California, charging him with murder. Leon was arrested in Lexington, Kentucky, on February 23, 2023.
