Karen Sue Adams, a 54-year-old woman from Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, vanished on March 11, 2007, after a trip to the Mountaineer Gaming Resort in Chester, West Virginia. She departed from her residence, which she shared with her brother, and drove to the casino. Her last confirmed financial transaction was the use of her credit card at the resort. Security cameras captured her leaving the parking lot at 4:31 a.m.
on March 12, and she accessed her cellphone's voicemail for the last time just four minutes later at 4:35 a.m. Adams never made it back to her Pennsylvania home and has not been seen or heard from since.
Adams was driving a red or maroon 2005 Suzuki Forenza with Pennsylvania license plate number EDT5587, which also remains missing. Since her disappearance, there has been no activity on her cellular phone or credit cards. Her family finds her disappearance highly uncharacteristic, particularly given her devotion to her cherished dog, whom they believe she would never abandon. Her brother acknowledged that she had a gambling problem and that he had voiced his concerns about her spending at the casino, but she viewed it as her favorite pastime.
At the time of her disappearance, Adams was employed at two jobs: as a cashier at a retail store and as a teacher's aide for individuals with disabilities at the Allegheny Valley School. She was described as a vibrant and fun-loving person who was deeply dedicated to her work with disabled students and adored her yellow Labrador, Amy. Her family does not believe she disappeared voluntarily. The investigation into her case is being handled by the Pennsylvania police and remains unsolved. In May 2022, authorities in Beaver County announced they were taking a fresh look at the case, with newer investigators taking over from retired FBI agents who were initially involved.
