Georgia Malinda Stone, a 56-year-old woman from the Hilltop area of Fayette County, West Virginia, was last seen at her home on Sanger Road on the morning of December 5, 2016. She was reported missing by her daughter the following day. When she left her residence, Ms. Stone was believed to be wearing blue jeans and a red sweatshirt. Investigators noted that she did not take her cell phone with her and had not made any contact with friends or family.
Authorities also indicated that she may have been in emotional distress when she disappeared.
The investigation into Ms. Stone's disappearance extended to neighboring Nicholas County, where she was originally from and maintained various relationships. Described as a white female, approximately 5'2" and weighing around 140 pounds, with brown hair, blue eyes, and glasses, her case drew attention as law enforcement sought leads from the public. For nearly three years, her whereabouts remained a mystery, prompting ongoing efforts by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department to gather any information that might lead to her location.
In October 2019, skeletal remains were discovered by a hunter in a wooded area near Sanger Road in Hilltop, not far from where Ms. Stone was last seen. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed the remains to be those of Georgia M. Stone.
