Summary based on 4 sources
On July 19, 2002, 52-year-old Lian Fang Feng was last seen at her residence on 52nd Avenue in Queens, New York. Her adult daughter, Jena Liang, discovered a disturbing scene upon returning home, finding bloodstains on the floor, ceiling, and a vase, with indications that someone had attempted to clean up the blood. There were no signs of forced entry into the home. Feng had vanished and has not been seen or heard from since. Her wallet and passport were left behind, and there has been no activity on the bank account she shared with her daughter.

At the time of her disappearance, Feng was in the midst of what her daughter described as an "unfriendly" divorce from her husband, Roger Hui, although they were still living in the same house. Feng and her daughter resided on the second floor, while Hui lived on the first floor. Liang has publicly stated her belief that her stepfather was involved in her mother's disappearance. She pointed to his attempt in 2008 to have his wife legally declared dead in order to become the administrator of her estate and collect on her $1 million life insurance policy, a move Liang opposed. The house the couple co-owned was sold after she went missing, and her portion of the profits was placed in escrow.

Jena Liang has been critical of the New York Police Department's handling of her mother's case. She alleges that her inquiries have been largely ignored and that the investigation has been mishandled. At one point, when she requested to see the case files, she was informed that most of the records had been destroyed in a flood. However, the NYPD has stated that the investigation is active and ongoing, being handled by the Queens Homicide unit.

Liang describes her mother as a shy and reclusive woman who, despite having lived in the United States for 18 years, only spoke Chinese. Foul play is suspected in Feng's disappearance due to the evidence of a violent struggle at her home. As of now, no one has been charged in connection with her disappearance.
