In the summer of 2002, a distressing mystery began to unfold in the life of 52-year-old Lian Fong Feng. On the morning of July 19th, she was seen for the last time at her apartment in Queens, New York. A native of China who had moved to the United States in 1984, Lian was described as a shy and reclusive woman who spoke only Chinese. At the time of her disappearance, she was in the midst of an "unfriendly" divorce from her husband, Roger Hui, though they were still living in the same home. Lian and her adult daughter, Jena Liang, resided on the second floor, while Hui lived on the first. The circumstances surrounding Lian's disappearance quickly pointed towards a grim scenario. When her daughter Jena returned home, she was met with a horrifying scene: bloodstains were present on the floor, ceiling, and a vase, with evidence suggesting that someone had attempted to clean the area. There were no signs of forced entry into the apartment. Critically, Lian's personal belongings, including her wallet and passport, were left behind, and there has been no activity on her bank account since that day. Police records indicated strong evidence of foul play, yet Lian's body has never been found. Jena Liang has publicly stated her belief that her stepfather was involved in her mother's disappearance. The investigation into Lian Fong Feng's case has been fraught with difficulties and controversy. Years after she vanished, in 2008, her husband attempted to have her legally declared dead in order to take control of her estate and a life insurance policy valued at one million dollars. This move was contested by Lian's daughter. Compounding the family's anguish, when Jena Liang subpoenaed the New York Police Department for the records related to her mother's case, she was informed that the evidence had been destroyed in a flood at One Police Plaza. However, the NYPD later refuted this claim, stating that the case was still active and being investigated by the Queens Homicide squad. Despite these assertions, no one has ever been charged in connection with Lian Fong Feng's disappearance, leaving her loved ones without answers and the case officially unresolved.
