On October 5, 1987, 75-year-old James Jamison was last seen in Burlington, Iowa. A postal carrier witnessed him getting into a taxi with suitcases outside his mobile home located in the 3100 block of Sunnyside Avenue. Prior to this, Jamison had informed friends of his intention to take a trip to Chicago. He has not been seen or heard from since. His disappearance was considered uncharacteristic as he left behind numerous family keepsakes.
Jamison was reportedly dealing with credit card debt before he vanished. His only source of income was Social Security benefits, which were directly deposited into his bank account. Notably, this account was never accessed after his disappearance. Jamison's wife of sixteen years had passed away eighteen months before he went missing, but he maintained regular contact with his stepson. It was his stepson who ultimately discovered Jamison was gone when he visited his home and found that the mobile home had been sold and his stepfather had left abruptly.
Authorities do not suspect foul play in Jamison's disappearance. He was known to suffer from diabetes and heart disease, for which he required medication and had been previously hospitalized. In September 1995, a body that matched Jamison's description was found in Florida, but authorities were unable to definitively confirm if it was him.
