Hayde Beatriz Vasquez, a 22-year-old nanny, was last seen on May 29, 2004, in Coral Springs, Florida. She was dropped off at a Wal-Mart located in the 6000 block of Coral Ridge Drive. Vasquez intended to purchase clothing for a weekend trip. Security footage from the store captured her shopping and leaving the establishment alone at approximately 7:00 p.m. She had arranged for a friend to pick her up but never made the call. Vasquez has not been seen or heard from since that evening, and authorities suspect foul play in her disappearance. At the time she went missing, she had been employed as a nanny for a family in Parkland, Florida, for a year and a half.
Investigators have explored potential connections between Vasquez's case and the murder of another nanny, Monica Valdizan. Valdizan, a 20-year-old from Peru living in Boca Raton, vanished on January 2, 2004, just months before Vasquez. Her body was discovered three days later; she had been the victim of a brutal assault, including beating, rape, and strangulation. A year later, DNA evidence identified Jerry Wiggins as her killer, leading to his arrest. Wiggins was convicted in 2014 and received three consecutive life sentences.
Despite a reported strong physical resemblance between Valdizan and Vasquez, and a thorough investigation into a possible link between the two cases, no evidence has been found to connect them. Law enforcement did not consider Wiggins, who passed away in prison in 2017, a suspect in Vasquez's disappearance. Hayde Beatriz Vasquez's case remains unsolved.
