Simmoni Jamie Berry, a 50-year-old transgender woman, was last seen on September 12, 2004, in Arcadia, Florida, just three days after her birthday. At the time of her disappearance, she lived in the 11700 block of southwest Anne Avenue. Berry was in the midst of a move to Mayo, Florida, having already sold her home in Arcadia, but had postponed her departure due to storms in the area. She has not been seen or heard from since. Her Pekingese dog also vanished at the same time.
On September 19, 2004, Berry's white 1994 Chevrolet van, which had a burgundy stripe, was discovered abandoned on Glenadine Avenue in the Spring Lake subdivision, a short distance from her residence. The vehicle was found to be in working order with the doors locked and the key still in the ignition. Inside the back of the van were blankets, pillows, and other personal items.
Authorities consider Berry's disappearance to be under suspicious circumstances. It was noted as being highly uncharacteristic of her to not maintain contact with her family. Despite the discovery of her van, no further clues to her whereabouts have been found. Nothing appeared to be missing from her home.
