On August 20, 1977, 47-year-old Theodore Sander III was last seen in the mountains overlooking Convict Lake in Mono County, California. An experienced hiker, Sander had driven to the lake early that morning, parked his car, and presumably set out for a hike in the surrounding rugged terrain. He never returned.
