Jason Martin Glazier, a 53-year-old flight instructor, was last seen on Catalina Island, off the coast of Los Angeles, California, on May 28, 2016. At approximately 1:00 p.m., he departed from the Catalina Island airport in a four-seater, single-engine Cessna 172N with the tail number N739ZE. Accompanying him was his student, 50-year-old Edmond Haronian. Their intended destination was Van Nuys Airport, but the aircraft never arrived.
Radar data indicated the plane flew north from Catalina Island. However, tracking capability was lost just three minutes after takeoff, when the plane was about five miles away from the Catalina Airport. It was noted that the plane's transponder had been turned off, which prevented the transmission of altitude information. An oil slick was later observed in the water near the location where the plane disappeared from radar, but neither Glazier, Haronian, nor the aircraft have ever been found. The U.S. Coast Guard conducted a search but suspended it after finding no signs of the aircraft or anyone in distress.
In 2018, the family of Edmond Haronian filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Glazier's employers, Encore Flight Corp. and Encore Flight Academy, as well as the owner of the plane, Libra Air Inc. The lawsuit alleged that Glazier had a history of reckless flying and a significant criminal record, with arrests for offenses including grand theft and attempted murder. While a death certificate has been issued for Haronian, Jason Martin Glazier is still officially considered a missing person and his case remains unsolved.Last Seen: May 28, 2016
