Richard Alan Byhre, 76, was last seen on February 10, 2015, in San Diego, California. On that day, he departed from the Southwestern Yacht Club on Shelter Island aboard his 28-foot sailboat, the Princess, and never returned. Byhre was an avid whale watcher and typically took day trips. He has not been seen or heard from since his departure.
The Princess is described as having a deep blue hull with a white stripe near the bottom.
An extensive search was launched following Byhre's failure to return, but no trace of him or his sailboat was found. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain a mystery.
Due to a hearing impairment, Byhre did not own a cellular phone. He would normally communicate with his wife of 34 years via email on a tablet he carried with him while on his boat trips.
