Jose Alberto Ortigoza, a 26-year-old Mexican national, was last seen on January 24, 2014, at approximately 2:56 p.m. He had just crossed the U.S./Mexico border on foot at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in San Diego, California. Ortigoza was in the United States to conduct business for his employer, Especies y Granos de Baja California, a wholesale spice company. It is believed that he may have entered a silver and black 2008 or later model GMC Acadia Crossover vehicle.
He has not been seen or heard from since that time.
At the time of his disappearance, Ortigoza was wearing a dark-colored long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans and was carrying a black backpack. He was 5'6" tall and weighed 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. While he was carrying business papers, he did not have a significant amount of cash with him. Since he was last seen, there has been no activity on his cellular phone.
Ortigoza's disappearance is considered uncharacteristic of his behavior. His wife reported that he was the family's primary provider and shared a close bond with her and their young son. His employer described him as an ideal employee. He had been with the same company for over four years and frequently made business trips across the border without incident.
