In the late spring of 2012, concern began to grow for 46-year-old Male Glen Ray Cook Jr., who was last seen in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on June 11, 2012. At the time of his disappearance, Cook was described as a white male, standing 5'11" and weighing 210 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair. He had a scar near his left eye and a tattoo on his left hand.
Family members reported that Cook was living with paranoid schizophrenia and was not taking his medication in the period leading up to his disappearance, which caused him to become increasingly paranoid. He reportedly heard voices and held the belief that he was being spied on. His family also conveyed to law enforcement that he might have been using methamphetamines. The last time he was seen, he was a passenger in his niece's car when he insisted she pull over, convinced they were being "followed by Asians." After checking the trunk and underneath the vehicle, he allowed her to continue driving and she dropped him off at his residence. Glen Cook Jr. has not been seen or heard from since that day.
The days following June 11th passed with no word from Cook, which was described as being highly out of character for him by his nephew, Joshua Adkins. The family's worry intensified when they received a phone call from an unknown individual using Cook's phone, who claimed to have found the phone along with his vehicle. On the morning of June 19, 2012, Cook's maroon 1998 Hyundai Accent was discovered abandoned in the Muldrow Bottoms area near the Mayo Dam. The vehicle was stuck on a sandbar in the Arkansas River, and witnesses reported it had been there since at least June 16. This discovery prompted a multi-agency search of the area. The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Smith police, and local rural fire departments collaborated in an extensive search of the wooded terrain near the dam, utilizing about 20 four-wheelers to navigate the area, though their efforts were hampered by rain.
Despite the intensive searches of the river and the surrounding land, no trace of Glen Ray Cook Jr. was found. His disappearance is considered to be under suspicious circumstances, and authorities have stated that foul play is suspected. Since he went missing, there has been no activity on his bank accounts, and he has not refilled any of his necessary prescriptions. The investigation into his abandoned car was intended to yield further leads, but the case grew cold. The unusual circumstances of his last known interaction, coupled with his mental health struggles, the discovery of his abandoned car in a remote location, and the complete lack of contact or financial activity, paint a troubling picture.
