In the winter of 2025, Hari Krishna Reddy Karasani, a 24-year-old graduate student from India who was studying in Houston, Texas, embarked on a solo vacation to Alaska. He arrived in Fairbanks on December 22, 2025, having told his roommates he would be back in a couple of weeks, around January 4th or 5th, 2026.
