In August 2023, a concerning case emerged involving the disappearance of six individuals from the St. Louis area, among them 3-year-old Malaiyah Wickerson and her mother, Ma'Kayla Wickerson. The group, which also included Mikayla Thompson (25), Naaman Williams (30), Gerrielle German (27), and German's 2-year-old son, Ashton Mitchell, was last seen on August 13, 2023, at a Quality Inn Hotel in Florissant, Missouri.
