In the late afternoon of a Sunday in Houston, the life of 53-year-old Dwayne Robinson, a male, was brought to a violent and abrupt end. On December 3, 2023, outside a tire shop on Lockwood Drive, what should have been an ordinary day turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy. Robinson was standing in the business parking lot when a maroon SUV approached. A man emerged from the vehicle and fired multiple gunshots, striking Robinson, who was driving a light brown pick-up truck.
The shocking event unfolded in front of several witnesses, including a family with three small children who were visiting the tire shop owner.
The gunman fled the scene in the SUV immediately after the shooting. Houston Police Department officers were dispatched to the location around 5:25 p.m. and found Robinson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived and pronounced him deceased at the scene. Witnesses described the harrowing moments, recalling how Robinson fell after being shot, managed to get up and walk around his truck, only to collapse again. The suspect's vehicle was later found abandoned at a nearby gas station, which provided a crucial lead for investigators.
The subsequent investigation by the HPD Homicide Division moved swiftly. Detectives were able to identify Anthony Ray Gardner, 42, as the suspect in the fatal shooting. The day after the incident, on Monday, December 4, members of the HPD Northeast Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team located and arrested Gardner. He was subsequently charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Court records revealed that Gardner had a violent past, including a 2001 conviction for killing a man by beating him with a bat. The case against Gardner represents a pursuit of justice for the brazen killing of Dwayne Robinson, an act that not only took a man's life but also left a lasting trauma on the innocent bystanders, including young children, who witnessed the horrific event.
