Michaela Joy Garecht, a 9-year-old girl from Hayward, California, was abducted on November 19, 1988, in broad daylight. She and a friend had gone to the Rainbow Market near their home to buy snacks. After leaving the store, Michaela noticed that her friend's scooter had been moved. When she went to retrieve it, an unidentified man grabbed her and forced her into his vehicle. Despite her friend's quick attempt to get help, the abductor drove away, and Michaela was never seen again.
