Edyth Ann Warner, a 35-year-old woman, disappeared along with her 11-year-old son, Nicholas Vincent Smith, on February 23, 1991, from Las Cruces, New Mexico. At the time, they were living in student housing at New Mexico State University (NMSU) with Edyth's second husband, Henry Warner, and their 3-year-old son, Andrew. Edyth was an art student at NMSU, specializing in metal art and jewelry-making.

Edyth and Henry had been experiencing marital issues, and in February 1991, she reportedly requested a divorce. On February 23, Edyth told Henry that she and Nicholas would be staying with a friend temporarily. Afterward, both she and Nicholas vanished. Henry waited seven days before filing a missing persons report with the NMSU Police Department. Their disappearance left behind many unanswered questions, including why Edyth left her car and her younger son behind.

Investigations initially did not suspect foul play, with reports indicating that Edyth had withdrawn $1,000 in cash and a significant amount of gold and silver before her disappearance. However, by 2008, authorities began to suspect that foul play was involved, particularly as there had been no activity on either Edyth’s or Nicholas's Social Security numbers since they vanished. Additionally, Edyth’s family believed it was out of character for her to abandon her young son Andrew and sever all ties with loved ones.

Despite numerous searches and inquiries, no significant breakthroughs have been made, and both Edyth and Nicholas remain missing to this day. Their case is still classified as unsolved, and law enforcement continues to seek information that could help resolve their mysterious disappearance.
