On a June morning in 1999, 73-year-old Ruth Doss was preparing to meet two acquaintances for breakfast at a Denny's restaurant located at West Indian School Road and West 51st Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona. She was last seen at her residence at approximately 6:00 a.m. on June 18th, dressed in a purple shirt and blue-green slacks, carrying a gray purse. Known for her kind and trusting nature, Ruth was in regular contact with her family, particularly her son, making her subsequent silence all the more alarming. Her family described her as a generous woman, always willing to help those less fortunate, a trait they fear may have contributed to her disappearance. Later that same day, concern grew when Ruth failed to answer pages or return phone calls from her son, a departure from her usual routine. This prompted her son to go looking for her. His search led him to the parking lot of the Denny's restaurant where she was scheduled to have breakfast. There, he discovered her white 1997 Dodge Dakota extended cab pickup truck, abandoned. There were no immediate signs of a struggle or any indication as to what might have happened to Ruth. It remains unclear if she ever made it inside the restaurant for her planned meeting. The investigation into Ruth's disappearance faced immediate challenges. Authorities were unable to confirm if she met with the two individuals, identified as a man named George and a chaplain. The man was later identified as George R. Bogart, whom police located and questioned after he checked himself into a medical center for a drug and alcohol abuse program. Despite being questioned, he was never arrested in connection with Ruth's disappearance, and the identity of the chaplain remains unclear. At the time she went missing, Ruth was described as a Caucasian female, standing between 5'8" and 5'10" and weighing between 105 and 115 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. She wore eyeglasses and had surgical scars on both legs below her knees. The case eventually went cold, leaving her family with years of unanswered questions and profound grief. The Phoenix Police Department continues to list her as a missing person, and despite the passage of time, the hope that new information will surface and provide closure remains.
