Edith Verline Baker, a 79-year-old woman, was last seen on August 26, 2001, at the KQ Ranch Resort near State Route 79, south of Julian, California. Baker, who was known to take morning walks before her family awoke, left for a hike around 6:00 a.m. that day. She was not carrying adequate supplies such as water or protective clothing, and the area’s daytime temperatures reached 90 degrees, with lows in the 60s at night.
