Mary Elizabeth Loper, 27, disappeared on the night of May 29, 2002, from her home in Lucedale, Mississippi. She was last seen around 10:00 p.m. at her residence on Clarence Bonnett Road. The next morning, her husband, Jonathan Carl Loper, claimed their six-year-old son woke him up at 4:00 a.m., and Mary was missing. She has not been seen since.
On the day of her disappearance, Mary had contacted her mother from the hospital, where she received stitches for a wound above her eye, which she claimed was inflicted by her husband during an argument. Despite concerns from her family, Mary returned home after the hospital visit. She had also expressed fear to her sister about her safety due to her husband, but decided to go back home to tend to her children.
Following her disappearance, police discovered some blood in the home, which may have been linked to her recent injury.
