In the early summer of 2004, 37-year-old Steve Woelfel disappeared from Chilton, Wisconsin. At the time, he was reportedly experiencing significant personal distress due to a pending divorce. Family members have stated that it was uncharacteristic of him to leave without notice. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, dark blue or black shorts, and white athletic shoes. He also wears either contact lenses or glasses with brown plastic frames.

Sometime after he was last seen, his red 1995 Chevrolet S-10 extended cab pickup truck, which had silver stripes, was discovered abandoned. The vehicle was found at an apartment complex in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, in the area of the 700 block of Highland Street. Despite the discovery of his truck, there was no sign of Steve Woelfel at the scene. This finding only deepened the mystery surrounding his sudden disappearance. He was familiar with the Kewaskum area.
In the weeks that followed his initial disappearance, a possible but unconfirmed sighting of him was reported in the Campbellsport, Wisconsin area. However, this lead did not result in locating him. Law enforcement officials have indicated that while there is no direct evidence of foul play, it has not been entirely ruled out as a possibility. The case remains unsolved, leaving his family with unanswered questions. The investigation into his disappearance is being handled by the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office.
