On a spring morning in 1987, 23-year-old Ronald Allen Vonderheide was at his Cincinnati, Ohio, residence when an argument with his mother reportedly took place. Following the disagreement, he left the home located in the 6200 block of Cambridge Avenue and was never heard from again. At the time of his disappearance, it was not uncommon for Ronald, or "Ron" as he was known, to be out of touch for days at a time, but he had never been gone for such an extended period. His mother reported him missing, and his brother searched for him to no avail. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear, and very little information has been made public about the investigation. At the time he went missing, Ronald was described as a white male, standing at 5'10" and weighing between 160 and 185 pounds. He had light brown hair and blue eyes. He had several distinguishing physical characteristics, including a previously fractured ankle and a missing crown on his upper left front tooth. He also had quarter-sized scars on his back and the back of his upper left arm from a previous incident where he was shot, with the bullet remaining lodged in the back of his ribcage. He was last seen wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. Reports indicate that at the time of his disappearance, Ronald was known to abuse inhalants, such as glue and paint, and had other mental health issues. Over the years, the investigation into Ronald's disappearance has continued, though it is now considered a cold case. Authorities have collected DNA from his mother and brother to be entered into national databases in the event that unidentified remains are found. Despite the passage of time and the lack of new leads, law enforcement continues to seek information that could shed light on what happened to Ronald Vonderheide. His case is listed on several missing persons websites, and the Miami Township Police Department remains the primary investigating agency. The lack of any trace of him since that day in 1987 has led authorities to believe he is likely deceased, though his case remains officially unsolved. The family has endured decades of uncertainty, holding out hope for answers in the disappearance of a young man who vanished without a trace.
