William Emsley Hipp III, a 39-year-old sculptor from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, was last seen on July 1, 1991. He had collected $5,000 from a debt and was reportedly carrying the cash when he left his home. Hipp, who suffered from bipolar disorder and alcoholism, was in need of medication to manage his condition. His mental health struggles, combined with his decision to stop carrying identification, complicated his disappearance.
