Blake Wade Pursley, a 14-year-old boy, went missing on June 26, 1994, from Running Springs, California. At the time, he was living at the CEDU School, a private residential facility for children with special needs. Blake had only been enrolled at the school since June 1 and was reportedly homesick. On the evening of his disappearance, he was last seen around 8:00 p.m., heading to a barn on the school property to check on the animals.
A staff member saw a light turn on in the barn shortly after, but Blake never returned to his dormitory by the 10:00 p.m. curfew, and he has not been seen since.
Blake had several health conditions stemming from a near-drowning accident as a toddler, which left him with multiple physical and medical challenges, including seizures that required medication twice daily. Without his medication, Blake was at significant risk. He also walked with a limp due to a leg length discrepancy and had scars from various surgeries on his head, neck, chest, and abdomen. Despite search efforts, including tracking dogs that followed his scent to a nearby highway, there was no further trace of Blake, leading to uncertainty about whether he ran away or was abducted.
There have been unconfirmed sightings of Blake in various locations across California and Utah after his disappearance, but none have led to his recovery. Blake's family holds out hope that he might still be alive, possibly trying to return to his home state of Colorado, where he was from. His case remains unsolved, and no definitive answers have been found regarding what happened to him that night.
