Tabitha Diane Brewer, 16, was last seen on April 27, 1998, in Shawnee, Kansas. She disappeared along with her 19-year-old boyfriend, Nicholas Travis. That night, they left her father’s home with a friend, Brandon Howell, to run an errand but never returned. Three days after their disappearance, Tabitha’s partially burned purse and both of their identification cards were found in a dumpster in Kansas City, Missouri. This discovery quickly led investigators to suspect foul play.
Months later, in August 1998, Nicholas’s body was found buried in a shallow grave in Kansas City, Missouri, near where their belongings had been discovered. He had been murdered, with fractures to the back of his skull. However, no trace of Tabitha has ever been found, and she remains missing to this day. Authorities believe both Nicholas and Tabitha were victims of a violent crime, with Brandon Howell emerging as the prime suspect.
Although there was not enough evidence at the time to charge Howell, he was later implicated in a series of violent crimes, including another murder spree in 2014. Despite attempts to charge Howell for the murders of Tabitha and Nicholas, he was acquitted in 2009 due to insufficient evidence. Tabitha's case remains unsolved, and authorities suspect that foul play was involved in her disappearance.
