On June 27, 2001, 65-year-old Robert Ralph Swaner was last seen in Blaine County, Idaho. An experienced hiker described by those who knew him as a "free spirit," his initial absence did not immediately cause alarm. Swaner was known to often venture into the backcountry alone. However, concern grew as time passed without any communication from him.
