Landon Deriggi, a 13-year-old boy from Miami Shores, Florida, was last seen on July 27, 1973. On that morning, after his family had returned from a camping trip to the Everglades, Landon asked his mother if he could go outside to play, which she allowed. He left their home in the 400 block of Northwest 112th Terrace and never came back. His disappearance was initially not reported right away due to his history of running away, a behavior he had exhibited a few times before, but he always
returned after a short period.
Landon had several challenges growing up. Born prematurely, he suffered from a deviated septum, which caused his nose to appear slanted. Additionally, he had impaired vision and was legally blind, although he refused to wear glasses. He was also diagnosed with hyperactivity and had difficulty adjusting socially, being frequently bullied at school. Despite these difficulties, he had a high IQ, scoring 160, although his mother noted that he struggled with common sense.
When the police investigated, they found some of his belongings stashed in a nearby hedge, leading to the suspicion that Landon may have planned to meet someone. Unfortunately, no further clues emerged, and despite various leads over the years, the case remains unsolved. His family moved to Georgia in 1977 but left a note behind for Landon at their old home in case he returned, instructing him on how to contact them.
