On a summer afternoon in August of 1983, a 10-year-old girl named Tiahease Jackson vanished from Staten Island, New York. At the time, she and her family were living at the Mariner's Harbor Motel on Forest Avenue after a fire had destroyed their apartment. Despite the recent hardship, her family was planning to relocate and start fresh in the southern United States. On August 14th, while her mother was resting, another resident of the motel asked Tiahease to walk to the nearby Crown Supermarket to buy chicken wings. She was last seen at approximately 1:30 p.m. leaving for the errand she would never complete. When her mother awoke at 4:30 p.m. and realized her daughter had been gone for three hours, she immediately contacted the police. Tiahease was described as a street-smart child who was cautious of strangers, but she has not been seen or heard from since that day. Tiahease was a young girl with several distinguishing features and significant health concerns. She had a lazy left eye that turned inward, a mole on her left cheek, and a burn scar on her left wrist and elbow area. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a dark blue ski jacket with white trim, a white sweater or blouse, blue jeans, and blue plastic mesh shoes. She also wore a yellow metal necklace with a butterfly charm, a silver bangle bracelet on her left wrist, and had two purple combs in her hair. Compounding the urgency of her disappearance were several medical conditions she suffered from, including diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, and Bright's Disease, a kidney disorder, all of which required regular medication. The investigation into Tiahease's disappearance has spanned decades, with law enforcement exploring various leads. A prime suspect in her case is Andre Rand, a convicted child sex offender who had been released from prison just twelve days before Tiahease went missing. Rand had a makeshift campsite in a cemetery less than half a mile from the motel where the Jackson family was staying. Tiahease's mother later told investigators that she had seen a man matching Rand's description loitering in the motel's parking lot prior to her daughter's disappearance. While Rand has been convicted of other crimes, including the kidnapping of another child, he has never been charged in connection with Tiahease's case. The case remains an open and painful mystery, a story of a young girl sent on a simple errand who tragically never returned home. Her family, particularly her mother who passed away in 2008, has been left without answers for what happened to their beloved daughter.
