Catherine Ruth Malcolmson, a 16-year-old girl from Stow, Massachusetts, was last seen on August 13, 1985. She was riding her bike to her part-time job at a supermarket in Hudson, a short distance from her home. Catherine was reported missing when she failed to arrive at work, and her disappearance has remained unsolved for decades.
Initially, her case was classified as a possible runaway, but her family strongly believed otherwise, as Catherine had left behind her first paycheck and
seemed to be in good spirits on the day of her disappearance. Two years later, her bicycle was discovered in a wooded area off Route 62, about a mile from her home, but no other traces of her were found. This discovery led authorities to suspect foul play.
There are suspicions that Catherine's case may be linked to the disappearance and murder of Sarah Pryor, a 9-year-old girl who went missing two months after Catherine. John Robert Whirty, a convicted murderer and serial offender, was considered a prime suspect in both cases, but no definitive evidence has connected him to Catherine’s disappearance. Despite extensive investigations, Catherine has never been located, and her family held a memorial service for her in 1992.
